Creativity Doesn’t Need Rules! Or Does It?
The idea of living more creatively seems to contradict the idea of rules, doesn’t it? It might seem that we should toss out all the rules and just “go with the flow.” Chaos isn’t what we’re after, though. Creativity, without a framework or some guidelines, rapidly becomes chaos - unproductive, frustrating and confusing.
Since frustration, confusion and difficulty are the opposite of what we want to inspire in you, we have a few guidelines or ground rules.
- Comments are welcome and encouraged.
- We require you to register to post a comment. Why? Because we want to be able to give credit where credit is due - and because we like to keep track of other creative people, just in case we might find our own creativity running a bit low on occasion!
- Flaming, attacking us or other readers, or using comments to express political or religious opinions is not welcome - in fact, its a good way to get a comment deleted or to get yourself banished.
- We want to hear about your forays into creativity.
- Are you interested in becoming a regular contributor or writing a guest post? Let us know!
- Have an idea for a category we’re not covering? A Quick Step? Everyday Inspiration? Share it - via a comment or e-mail.
- While we are here to help you live more creatively, we’re certainly not the only, or even most knowledgeable resources out there. If you find websites, books, quotes or other sources of creative inspiration, share them with us! Creativity increases the more it is shared.
- Keep your language and subjects clean. While creativity has as much inspiration in the darker and more adult areas of life as it does in the PG or G rated areas, our purpose here is increase EVERYDAY creativity. If you find more adult-themed creativity-related sites or posts, certainly let us know about them. We’ll be more than happy to mention them and even link to them - with suitable warning about the type of content.
And the last - but certainly not least of the ground rules -
- Check your fear and embarrassment at the door! We’re not here to judge. We’re here to encourage. There will be ideas here that are outside your normal thought patterns. There will be activities that may lead you to think “But I’ll look silly/stupid/funny/odd/etc. if I do that” or “But I’m not creative/smart/knowledgeable/good enough to do that.” These are boxes that we put ourselves in - and only we can get ourselves out of them. It doesn’t matter if your attempts at a new activity aren’t perfect or aren’t good enough to share. What matters is that you make the attempt. You only fail if you choose not to try - and even then, you won’t be failing anyone else - only yourself.
Remember - practice makes things easier and makes you better at them if you do it right. So join us in our quest for more creative lives - each attempt you make will make the next one easier.
