Shapes, Shapes, Everywhere

Filed under: Getting Inspired, Quick Steps — ShadowsEdge @ 8:42 am

Need a quick creativity boost? Here’s one that requires nothing more than your ability to recognize shapes. This excercise will have you looking at things with a different perspective - a perfect way to give your creativity a booster shot.

  • Pick a shape - any shape. Let’s use a Triangle for this example.
  • Take the next 5 minutes and observe your surroundings. How many triangles do you see? Do they stand alone or are the part of bigger structure or shape? What variations of the basic triangle do you see? Are most of the triangles three dimensional or 2 dimensional?
  • Look closely - you might be surprised where you encounter the shape you’re looking for. Can you see the shape in your handwriting? On your computer screen or desk? In your car or alongside the road. Can you see the shape in the clothes that people around you are wearing, or in the items they are carrying?

This exercise, like many you will see posted here, can easily be adapted into a game for children of almost any age. Give it your own twist. Pick an unusual shape, or look for only a particular variation of the shape you choose.

    1. You have some nice ideas here. I’ve made myself a note to add your blog to the useful links page I’m creating for artists that visit my site and read my blog. Thanks for stopping by and leaving the tip.
